Our Story

Tribute To Buck

Let me introduce myself, my name is "Buck" Fergeson. I'll tell you a little bit about myself. I spent the first 25 years following my father's footsteps as a Rodeo Cowboy. In the off seasons I worked as a ranch hand, truck driver, and oilfield roughneck, just to name a few.I have never had any formal training in art, but I have put in many hours with my sketch pad, pencil, and carving knife. My first love was woodcarving, and with the constant prodding of my friends and family I ventured into clay, wax, and bronze sculptures. I also make my pieces in gold and silver sculpted jewelry.

I am a proud gold card member of the Pro-Rodeo Cowboys Association, and a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. For 17 years I made the bronze sculptured trophies that were presented to the champion bull rider, calf roper, steer wrestler, and barrel racer. On February 10th of 2001, it was a great honor to be induced into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in Belton, Texas.

I now live in the small town of Bellville, Texas with my wife JoAnn. We show and sell art in our shop on the square in Bellville. Kerri Byler, my daughter, has recently introduced a complete line of children's clothing, ladies clothing, home décor, and specialty items. She has even set up a baby and bridal registry. Since my retirement as a vice president for a Houston fabricating firm, I spend most of my time in the shop or at the studio in my home. My rodeo career, along with my many and varied experiences lend themselves to the creating of the characters and situations found in most of my sculptures. When someone asks where an idea came from, I admit I enjoy saying "I've been there."

It's been real nice talking to you. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it. Go on and take a look around.
